Finding Interest in Things

This morning, Dad took Amelia downstairs so that Mom could get some sleep. After a bit of fuss and a bit of play, something caught Amelia's attention. It was the little bird mobile on the top of her swing. This was the first time that we've seen her look at something and be visually interested in it.

And while this may sound like no big deal, it's truly exciting. For the last three weeks, her comfort has come by touch. Whenever she got angry or started fussing, picking her up and holding her against us would usually fix the situation, at least temporarily until we could figure out what was really wrong. But seeing her take an interest in something she sees means that she's starting to learn!

Officially Amelia

Today, Amelia received her first piece of mail — and not just any mail, official mail. It was her social security card. We opened it to find that everything is spelled correctly and the number is nine digits long. I think that means that she's officially a person!

Also, First Snow

It's a bit early for it to be snowing, but tonight Amelia got to see it for the first time. She's only 8 days old, and she only saw it in the form of a snowball from across the room, but nevertheless, it happened.

First Doctor Visit

Today was Amelia's first doctor's appointment, just one day after she left the hospital. The reasoning for it was that she's a little jaundiced, and they want to keep an eye on things to make sure that she doesn't get worse.

She's eating well, she's pooping well, she's sleeping well; all indications point to her being a healthy little girl! The nurse practitioner we saw today agrees as well.

We're heading back again tomorrow to once again make sure everything is moving in the right direction. We know that Amelia won't mind, though. She seems to love car rides!
